The Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho, better known as Maracanã or affectionately as Maraca, is a football field located in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Its inauguration took place in 1950, under the name of Estádio Municipal, during the mandate of the then division general and mayor of the Federal District of Rio de Janeiro, Ângelo Mendes de Moraes. It was used in the Football World Cup that year, with an official capacity of 155,000 seats, which made it the largest stadium in the world at the time, surpassing Hampden Park in Glasgow.

Since then, Maracanã has been the stage for great moments in Brazilian and world football. Among them, Pelé's thousandth goal, finals of the Brazilian Championship, Campeonato Carioca, Copa Libertadores da América, the first FIFA Club World Cup and the 2021 Copa América, as well as international competitions and matches of the Brazilian team, stand out.

In 2007, the stadium was one of the competition venues for the Pan American Games, hosting football, the opening and closing ceremonies. In 2016, it hosted football and the opening and closing ceremonies of the Summer Olympic Games. In addition, it was the stage for the final matches of the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Over time, the stadium began to take on a multipurpose character by hosting other events, such as shows and matches of other sports, such as volleyball on one occasion. After several modernization works, the stadium's current capacity is 78,838 spectators, making it the largest stadium in Brazil.
