Flying Circus Agenda: shows and upcoming events

O Circo Voador was born in January 1982, when a blue and white tarp was erected on the sands from Arpoador. The structure of approximately 500 meters squares brought together theater, music, dance, circus and other languages in a period of great effervescence culture in Rio de Janeiro.

The experience initially planned to last a few weeks remained in Arpoador for about three months. After the tarpaulin was removed, the collective remained active, promoted presentations and looked for a place where he could develop the project permanently.

In October 23, 1982, the Circus landed definitively in Lapa, on land next to of Arcos da Lapa. At that time, the region had not yet had the intense cultural and nightlife for which would become known in the following decades.

The space has become an important meeting point for artists and audiences. Bands like Blitz, Barão Vermelho, Paralamas do Sucesso and Legião Urbana found there a decisive stage to achieve larger audiences, contributing to the consolidation of Brazilian rock from the 1980s.

The programming was never restricted to rock. The Circus received samba, MPB, reggae, rap, electronic music, theater, circus, cinema, carnival, workshops and projects focused on the community, preserving an identity marked by the mix of styles and generations.

In 1996, the house was closed and remained idle for approximately eight years. After mobilizing artists, workers, producers and public, the Circus was rebuilt in same location and reopened on July 22, 2004.

The new structure maintained the idea of a large canvas open to the city, combining track, grandstand, bars and outdoor areas. The proximity between the stage and public remains one of the most recognized experiences at Circo Voador.

Currently, the house remains a reference in music live in Brazil, receiving renowned artists, international tours, independent festivals and projects that introduce new music scenes.
