Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf Mountain, Copacabana and Maracanã are fundamental, but represent only a part of the Rio experience. Rio also has libraries, museums, gardens, islands and parks that remain outside the itineraries of most visitors.

The expression “secret place” is used in this guide in the sense editorial. None of the locations need to be literally unknown: the selection brings together public or visitable spaces which receive less attention than the more famous attractions.

Abandoned properties, private areas without authorization, clandestine access, trails considered unsuitable for inexperienced visitors and places whose Current activity could not be confirmed.

To start, take the free tour of the Center: Royal Cabinet, National Library, Tiradentes Palace, Imperial Palace and Naval Museum.

Opening times, prices, exhibitions and guided tours can change. Check the official channel on the same day, mainly for Ilha Fiscal, Sítio Burle Marx, research institutes and military units.
