Em cena, acompanhamos o encontro entre uma mulher experiente, irreverente, cheia de histórias para contar — livremente inspirada em Iris — e uma jovem jornalista, estagiária da Vogue americana, que recebe a missão de entrevistá-la. A matéria é um teste decisivo: dela depende a chance de conquistar um estágio remunerado e dar os primeiros passos rumo ao sonho de se tornar editora da revista.

O que começa como uma entrevista profissional logo se transforma em um jogo afetivo, divertido e inesperado. Entre perguntas, confidências, risadas e provocações, nasce uma relação de cumplicidade que atravessa gerações e revela temas universais: moda como expressão de identidade, etarismo, amor, perdas, escolhas e o valor do tempo vivido.

A dramaturgia mistura ficção e memória afetiva, criando paralelos delicados entre a relação das personagens e o encontro real de avó e neta em cena. Pela primeira vez juntas no palco, Rosamaria Murtinho — uma das grandes nomes da história do teatro brasileiro — divide a cena com sua neta Sofia Mendonça, trazendo frescor, emoção e verdade a esse diálogo entre juventude e maturidade.

Dirigido por Cacau Hygino, que também assina o texto, Uma Vida em Cores nasce como uma nova roupagem do espetáculo Através da Íris, monólogo escrito por Natália Timberg e inicialmente protagonizado por ela. Cacau Hygino, que conheceu Iris Apfel pessoalmente durante uma visita aos Estados Unidos, criou uma dramaturgia que celebra a vida, a criatividade e a coragem de se reinventar após perdas, como a de seu marido, companheiro por 68 anos.

“A Life in Colors” is a light, vibrant, and deeply human show inspired by the life and philosophy of the iconic American fashionista Iris Apfel, a symbol of freedom, creativity, and love for life at any age.

On stage, we follow the encounter between an experienced, irreverent woman full of stories — loosely inspired by Iris — and a young Vogue intern tasked with interviewing her. The interview becomes a test: her opportunity to secure a paid internship and take the first steps toward her dream of becoming a magazine editor.

What begins as a professional interview quickly turns into a playful, affectionate, and unexpected exchange. Through questions, confessions, laughter, and teasing, a bond of understanding develops that crosses generations and explores universal themes: fashion as an expression of identity, ageism, love, loss, choices, and the value of lived time.

Blending fiction with heartfelt memories, the play creates delicate parallels between the characters’ relationship and the real-life meeting of grandmother and granddaughter on stage. For the first time together, Rosamaria Murtinho — one of Brazil’s most revered theater artists — shares the scene with her granddaughter Sofia Mendonça, bringing freshness, emotion, and authenticity to this dialogue between youth and maturity.

Directed by Cacau Hygino, who also wrote the script, A Life in Colors is a reinvention of the original monologue Através da Íris, written by Natália Timberg. Hygino, who met Iris Apfel during a trip to the U.S., crafted a heartfelt tribute celebrating life, creativity, and the courage to continually reinvent oneself after personal loss, such as her husband’s passing after 68 years together.
