It has been over two thousand years since Sophocles presented Oedipus, his character, analyzed and discussed for centuries. The tragedy of a man who, trying to escape his fate, ends up fulfilling it, has been staged in many ways, with countless languages and in many countries.

The show “Edipo Again?” also pays homage to the genius of the Greek playwright and his plot filled with great dramas, mysteries, mysticism, curses, betrayals, anger, fights, rivalries, mythological beings, and one of the greatest plot twists of all time. Such a well-crafted story should not stay away from the audience. It should be accessed, re-read, and, if possible, well understood.

The play covers the story from the young age of Laius, the main character’s father, who had a forbidden affair with the young Creon, resulting in the curse that falls on Oedipus, up to Antigone, who helps her father after his downfall. The entire cast is both narrator and character in this plot, told in a way that alternates modern language with the classic text of Sophocles. The staging is inspired by the satire and criticism of revue theater, the sharp mockery of Brazilian burlesque theater, the exaggerated interpretation of Latin melodramas, and the agility and improvisation of traveling theater groups. All wrapped in humor, delivering a true tragicomedy.
